I’m at the point now where I’m less anxious about painting icons. John freakin’ Lennon — you can’t just phone in that portrait … too many people will be disappointed. It has been pointed out to me that I tend to do a better job on the portraits of celebrities I like.

I don’t disagree: it’s more fun to study the face of a hero than someone with a Kardashhilton.
